Heritage Ballpark Field, Puyallup, WA

If you would like to read more about the park from the county website, please click this link.

Heritage ballpark is one of the areas larger public sports (and recreation) facilities. I pass it quite frequently when running errands. Throughout the year, it is always very busy with soccer leagues and baseball or softball leagues. The fields are well-kept. Stunning, in fact. Several years ago, my middle son enrolled in the Mariner's Grand Slam camp which was hosted at the Heritage baseball field. Heritage is high class. It even has plenty of parking with stalls that are large enough for just about all vehicles, not just teeny-tiny cars. That in itself is worth going there!

If you aren't as interested in a sports field, the Nathan Chapman Memorial trail is right behind the park, easily accessible from multiple entry points. The trail is paved, making is accessible for just about everyone.

Senior Photo Possibilities

Now that you've read a little about the Heritage complex, here's why I like it for high school senior photos. First, if you are involved in baseball, softball, or soccer, this is an excellent place for your photos. The baseball fields are available with grass or turf, with lights or without. I highly recommend the turf field with the lights turned on. The field itself is beautifully maintained and has a ton of photographic opportunities, from photos on the pitcher's mound, the backstop, the dugout, and several other places around the field. Outside the field, there are areas for more traditional senior photos.

So How Does it All Work?

Easy. Heritage is one of the facilities that require a permit. I handle all that for you. Permits can vary in length-of-time, but in one-hour increments. My recent baseball-playing senior booked a one-hour permit on the turf field with the lights on. We photographed right to the end of our allotted time. While we were there, no one was allowed onto the field except us. Even the team coming right after us had to wait just outside the fence before entering the field. I could shoot wide or close without picking up any visitors or cars in the background. The trees at the end of the field block distractions while making you feel like you are the only one there. Even the high school next to us, Roger's High, created very little distraction when school released for the day.

Okay, But I'm Not Interested in the Field

Not a problem at all! Right behind the fields at Heritage is the Nathan Chapman Memorial trail. This paved trail offers numerous portrait possibilities. There are rocks to sit on, fences to lean against (and sit on), a bridge, forested trails, a pond, woodsy backgrounds, grassy fields, and a lot of families and runners on the trail making it a really nice and fun area to wander around.

Here are a couple photos from one of my senior sessions along the trail:
